The Cost of Living Crisis is the worst we have seen for decades and there can be no-one who has been unaffected by it in the whole country, let alone Nidderdale.

However, in our area, poor transport links and old housing stock with inadequate insulation are exacerbating the current crisis. In addition, a large number of properties are off-grid and are dependent on oil or wood pellets for heating, and these costs have increased more than domestic gas in many cases.

So we have put together a “Warm Spaces Directory for Nidderdale and Washburn” that has details on all the sessions that are currently running in our area where people can go to stay warm, and in many places get a hot drink and food. This is a live directory and we will continue to add places that are offering “warm spaces” as we hear of them. The link is here.

This page of our website also has links to resources such as energy saving tips and what government help is available, etc, as well as signposting to other organisations such as Warm & Well in North Yorkshire, Money Saving Expert and StepChange, etc, who are offering help at this time. We can provide hard copy print outs of any of these resources, just get in touch with us.

Finally, our Citizen’s Advice sessions are held monthly and we now have a real person advisor, rather than a video link! Please call us to make an appointment to see the Citizens Advice advisor: 01423 714953.

You are always welcome to come to the hub to spend time in our library to stay warm and connect with other people, so please do not hesitate to come and see us!
