Nidderdale Plus is currently working on two pilot projects with statutory partners, NYC and the NHS, in order to help improve the health and wellbeing of residents in our local area.  Find out more below.

NHS Research Ready Community Champions

We are partnering with the NHS to help break down barriers for rural residents to take part in, and become more aware of medical research.  The project involves the recruitment and deployment of Community Champions, who are well known in their community and can get involved in conversations with people, so that local residents can find out and understand more about:

  • What medical research is
  • The different formats it takes
  • The benefits of medical research
  • …and how they can get involved

Contact us here at Nidderdale Plus to find out the name of the champion who is active in your area if you would like to find out more and get involved in medical research.  You can also sign up to this national NHS website: Be Part of Research, to register your interest in various medical trials, depending on your own interests and time availability.

We will be advertising opportunities for people to take part in specific research projects from the summer of 2025, so keep an eye on our facebook page and remember to check back here on our website.

NYC Social Care Pilot

We are working with NYC on a 2-year pilot project to help people who are in receipt of a care package or on the waiting list to receive a health and care needs assessment.  Many of these people are living in social isolation and find it difficult to engage in their local community.

As part of this project, we are employing Zoe Crossley in a new “Services Navigator” role.  Zoe is out and about a lot throughout Nidderdale and the Washburn valley, visiting people in their own home and helping them in a number of ways to access services and get more involved in their local community.  Here are some of the services and interventions that Zoe can provide, facilitate, or signpost to:

  • Improving people’s digital skills or getting on line
  • Putting in place a home library service
  • Finding a volunteer befriender
  • Working out benefits entitlement
  • Involving people in our minibus days out programme
  • Helping to find people who can help with practical needs around the house
  • Enlisting people to our Meals on Wheels service

If you would like to volunteer as a befriender, or would like to find out more about this new pilot project, contact Zoe at zoe@nidderdaleplus.org.uk.
