Nidderdale Plus is beginning a programme of day trips out for people who do not get many opportunities to get out and about to experience different places and meet new people.  The two trips planned in August will go to Ripley Castle on 17th August, and on a canal boat trip (including lunch) in Skipton on 31st August.  All the trips will use the services of the new Nidd Plus minibus.

Helen Flynn said, “We are aware that there are a considerable number of people living in our area who have no access to transport, and who are still struggling to get out and about after the pandemic.  Days out, such as those we are planning, we hope will improve people’s wellbeing and enable them to visit new places.”

Nidd Plus was successful recently in a grant application to the Community Transport  Association’s “Tackling Loneliness through Community Transport Fund”, one of only 18 charities in the country to be selected to benefit from this national funding.  The weekly market trips to Ripon and Skipton that Nidd Plus is currently running are also covered by this grant funding.

Helen added, “It has been great to receive this funding which means that passengers only pay for the cost of the minibus, entrance fees to attractions, and any lunch or refreshments that are included in the trip.  Staff costs involved in booking the journeys and helping people on the day (all trips will be accompanied by a staff member) will be covered by the grant.”

To book or find out more residents should call: 01423 714953.  Flyers can also be picked up from the Community Hub or the Charity Shop in Pateley Bridge which include more information about the trips.  The schedule of trips til the end of the year will be available very soon.
