Nidd Plus has been on something of a “journey “over the past few years and has changed considerably, both in its structure and what services it offers to the community in that time. So it seemed the right time to change our brand, our website and our external signage* to reinforce our role in the local community as a charity and a community hub. We want residents and visitors to know we are here and how we can help them, especially in our role as the Nidderdale Community Hub. But one question we get asked a lot is: What is a Community Hub?
Community Hubs–across the country– provide a focal point and facilities to foster greater local community activity and bring residents, the local business community, and smaller organisations together to improve the quality of life in their areas. Typically, community hubs rely on volunteers to provide many of the services they offer, and Nidderdale Plus is no exception. Currently we have over 40 volunteers helping with driving the community car, providing library services, and helping visitors with tourist information, amongst other things.
Our volunteers receive training and are highly valued here for the valuable work they do in helping to run a busy community hub. In return, many volunteers derive great enjoyment and satisfaction from helping residents and visitors, and working with other volunteers in a collaborative atmosphere.
Now we have a “new look”, I urge you to come inside and see what we are about. There is a lot going on! We are always keen to recruit new volunteers and to reach out to other organisations to see if we can work together to provide services to help people in our area.
We look forward to meeting you!
*Huge thanks to North Yorks County Council for funding our new external signage.
