How our communities can respond to corona virus

Many Nidderdale residents will be concerned about the way that measures to prevent the spread of corona virus are becoming more severe. The prospect of people self isolating for anywhere between a week and 3 months is quite difficult to take on board and realise the full impact.

But parishes and organisations across the dale are responding with their own plans. What we are recommending at Nidd Plus is that efforts in each parish area are coordinated in some way to ensure that no individual is missed. This is already happening in some parishes.

Kirkby Malzeard Parish Council have an innovative website which allows you to volunteer on line, see link here: http://www.kirkbymalzeardarea.org.uk/ClassPages.aspx?c=180&pid=10_News_en-GB&aid=nn_290594513_290367434

In Darley, the Parish Council, churches and others have worked together to devise a zoning plan, and then allocating volunteers to each zone, the details of which are below, at the foot of this news bulletin.

If you are interested in getting help from Nidd Plus in putting together an emergency plan to cope with self isolation and how to organise volunteers to respond to the crisis, please get in touch with us at admin@nidderdaleplus.org.uk. We will be happy to help. It is important that residents know that volunteers are being recruited from a trusted local organisation such as the parish council.

Please keep coming back to our news pages here at Nidd Plus. We will be posting bulletins highlighting good practice in relation to the corona virus outbreak and news that is happening in Nidderdale and Washburn most days

Darley Parish Emergency Plan

An emergency meeting was held on Monday evening (16th March) with the following groups represented: Darley Parish Council, Darley Playing Fields Association, Christ Church and Christ Church Community Centre, and Darley Memorial Hall.

The following emergency plan was agreed to enable those who go into self isolation to access help from volunteers during their period of self isolation.

  1. The parish has been divided into zones and at least one volunteer will be allocated to each zone.
  1. We are appealing for volunteers to come forward to help with servicing people who are self isolating.  We are also seeking volunteers—who may be over 70 themselves— who can phone people in isolation, for example,  to help keep their spirits up and become a “buddy”.  Please see the contact point below if you want to volunteer for either role.
  1. You will all be informed by your volunteer which zone you are in and the volunteer will be handing out postcards which contain important information that you should read.
  1. If you decide to self isolate, please let the volunteer know.  The volunteer will help you with supplies and any other needs.  A central database of those who are self isolating will be held by the Parish Council in case the volunteer needs to self isolate at any point so that a relief volunteer can be put in place.
