At a live, Yorkshire-wide, on line awards ceremony on Friday 11th December, our team of volunteer drivers were one of the 10 winners of the “Big thank You” Awards, announced by Harry Gration! (Sandra Walker is pictured above receiving the award on line from Harry Gration.)

The awards have been set up by the Yorkshire-wide newspaper group to recognise the wonderful volunteering effort that has happened across the whole of Yorkshire during COVID-19.

We nominated our team of volunteer drivers as they have continually put others’ needs above their own as they have worked from the beginning of the crisis to help those in need. In the early days, they were delivering “things”: prescriptions, books, jigsaws, food parcels, etc, to those in self isolation.

After lockdown, they went back to transporting people to hospital and doctors’ appointments, as well as continuing with prescriptions, books and jigsaws, in particular.

We wanted to help the NHS so we got in touch with the North Yorks Clinical Commissioning Group in April to let them know about our service and to see if they needed help with transport. They took us up on the offer and so far we have delivered a variety of medial equipment to all the nursing homes in the district and GP practices.

Our stalwart team is comprised of: Ian Coates, Lawrence Sherrington, David Thomas, Carolyn Evans, Roger Wensley, Sarah Turnbull, Stuart Hatton, Simon Robinson–and Sandra Walker (who also works for Nidd Plus!).

We cannot thank them enough! Their efforts are very much appreciated by all the trustees and staff at Nidd Plus, as well as the local community.
