We are delighted this week to celebrate all the amazing work of our volunteers—and volunteers around the country. Volunteers’ Week is a national event that runs from 1-7 June, and this year is more significant than ever owing to the small legion of volunteers that has become mobilised since the pandemic hit in March 2020.
Volunteers’ Week is about celebrating and thanking those who give up their time to make a difference. Our team of volunteers at Nidd Plus was grown from 40 to 130 volunteers who deliver central services, and throughout Nidderdale we are aware of a small army of neighbours who helped their fellow neighbours during the first lockdown, in particular. If there is one positive to take from COVID, to my mind, it has been these selfless acts of compassion in our communities that have been the most memorable and heart-warming features of the crisis.
Benefits of volunteering
Much as communities and charities such as Nidd Plus have benefited from the services of volunteers who give up their time for free, volunteers also gain so much from volunteering. Here is what some of our volunteers have told us about the benefits of volunteering:
“It is really good to work as part of a team”. Chris, Birstwith
“I am loving being part of a positive team doing my bit for the roll-out of vaccinations and I feel supported in my role. I am impressed by Nidd Plus and the organisation of all of the volunteers”. Vanessa, Hampsthwaite
“The boost to my mental health through volunteering, especially through COVID, has been amazing, and I look forward to volunteering!” John, Hampsthwaite
So, there is a lot to volunteering, and we always welcome people to apply to be a volunteer at Nidd Plus. The central services we offer which use the services of volunteers are: volunteer driving; helping in the community library in Pateley Bridge; helping on the reception desk at Nidd Plus; and through COVID we have recruited a significant band of new volunteers to help at the vaccination sites as marshals in Pateley Bridge, Harrogate and Ripon.
If you would like to help with delivering any of these services, please email us on admin@nidderdaleplus.org.uk or call us on 01423 714953. We would especially appreciate a few more volunteers to help with vaccinations at Pateley Bridge, so do get in touch with us!
THANK YOU!!
We can never thank our wonderful volunteers enough for all the work that they do. Each person who volunteers is highly valued by us all here at Nidd Plus and we understand the enormous amount you are giving by giving up your time so freely to help other members of your local community.

I’d just like to say a huge thank you to Helen and the team who have been co-ordinating and supporting us during all of our shifts. The comms have been very helpful, confirming our shifts and the allocation of roles. I’ve absolutely loved volunteering with your amazing team and look forward to continuing in other roles after the vaccination program has ended.
