On the 11th November, WhatsApp launched the STOP. THINK. CALL. campaign, in partnership with Friends Against Scams (FAS). The campaign aims to help educate the British public on how to protect themselves and their WhatsApp account from message-based scams.

If a family member or friend makes an unusual request on WhatsApp, the campaign tagline, STOP. THINK.CALL. prompts people to call the person to confirm their identity.

WhatsApp has enlisted Joel Dommett as a SCAMbassador for FAS,once a victim of a scam himself, to help share some simple advice that can keep people safe. Together they are calling on the British public to STOP. THINK. CALLbefore they respond to a suspicious or unusual message.

“As someone who has fallen victim to a scam myself, I know, personally, how stupid and embarrassed it makes you feel. It’s important that we do as much as we can to raise awareness of all the different ways that scammers out there prey on vulnerable people. Simply remembering to ‘Stop. Think. Call.’ when you get an unusual message may save you a lot of money and inconvenience in the long run.”, Joel Dommett commented.
