Carer’s Time Off is just one of the many projects within local charity Carers Resource. Carers Time Off has continued to operate throughout the pandemic with volunteers giving vital support to those caring for loved ones at home.
There are around 7 million carers in the country – around 1 in 10 people, half of those care for over 90 hours a week, a quarter of carers haven’t had a day off for more than 5 years and a third of carers have been caring for over 15 years.
If you or someone you know is caring for an adult relative or friend who due to disability, frailty, ill health or mental health condition, dementia or addiction cannot cope without your support then Carers Resource may be able to help. By matching carers up with trained volunteers, short breaks can be provided so that carers can have a little time to themselves to meet a friend, or go for a walk or simply relax.
There is a simple referral process and then an introduction to a volunteer who can visit on a regular or occasional basis. The service is free and operates throughout the Harrogate district.
In order for Carers Time Off to continue successfully they rely on a team of volunteers. This is a hugely valuable and rewarding opportunity to really make a difference to someone’s life. Do you have an hour or two to give either monthly, fortnightly, weekly or just occasionally? You could sit and chat, go for a cuppa, play a game, visit a garden centre or have a walk and build a new friendship. There is no personal care or lifting and full training will be provided with travel expenses reimbursed.
